Lyme Disease Treatment
Lyme disease is the most common tick-borne illness in North America and is caused by the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi. Deer ticks typically carry the bacteria, which they spread to humans while feeding on their blood, but other insects including mosquitoes are also implicated.
The first symptom of Lyme disease is usually a rash in the shape of a bull’s-eye around the site of the tick bite.
However, other symptoms may be present and can include:
Flu-like symptoms - Fever, chills, fatigue, body aches and a headache may accompany the rash.
Joint pain : If the infection is not treated, bouts of severe joint pain and swelling may occur, particularly in the knees.
Neurological problems - In some cases, untreated infection resulting from Lyme disease may result in inflammation of the membranes surrounding the brain (meningitis), temporary paralysis of one side of the face (Bell's palsy) and numbness or weakness in limbs.
At our Clinic, part of our Lyme disease treatment protocol includes rebuilding the immune response so that it can target the infection by using natural antibiotics, such as against the bug itself.
